Through this initiative, the California ISO will review and update the methodology used to calculate the Maximum Import Capability to make year-by-year fluctuations more stable, and propose to change the assignment process under Tariff section 40.4.6.1 from a year-by-year to a multi-year allocation process to allow for long-term contracting with resources outside the ISO Balancing Authority Area.
Governance classification: Board only
Outcome: Effective June 1, 2021, the ISO implemented an updated methodology to calculate the maximum import capability in order to make year-by-year fluctuations more stable, and provided a way to receive multi-year reservations of maximum import capability at the branch group where New Use Import Commitments are scheduled; therefore, facilitating long-term contracting with resources outside the ISO Balancing Authority Area.
